About Me

Hi, I’m Michelle, the founder of Speakably. With over 25 years of experience in teaching English in various language and primary schools, I created Speakably to help young adults and professionals gain confidence in their spoken English.

I specialise in helping non-native speakers refine their pronunciation, sound more natural, and communicate with ease in professional and social settings. Speakably isn’t about textbooks and grammar drills—it’s about real, engaging conversations that make a lasting impact.

Whether you’re looking to improve your fluency for work, presentations, or everyday life, Speakably offers a dynamic, supportive space to practise and perfect your English.

My Background

Education

After completing a course in Travel and Tourism, I worked in various hotels and hospitality industries including The Bromley Court Hotel and The Royal National Theatre. During this time I went off to experience life in a few different places around the world. I encountered incredible experiences in countries including Nigeria, Colombia and Italy. Having submerged myself in difference cultures, I went on study Anthropology at Goldsmiths University.

I really enjoyed this course, and it developed a deeper love and respect for how different cultures live and learn. With a desire to continue to travel and mix with different communities, I

moved to Madrid for a few months where I became qualified as a TEFL teacher. I spent the following years teaching lots of different people from all walks of life.

In more recent years, I have been a primary school teacher at Brighton College. I have encountered a few different systems helping children learn how to understand the phonetics of English.

Having a variety of teaching experience, and a desire to help adults improve their conversational skills, has brought me to develop Speakably. I have had first hand experience of living in a different country where I couldn't speak the language. I know how uncomfortable and frustrating it is until, finally you feel you are understood, which is a fantastic feeling. It's so important for our mental well-being to feel we can communicate and be understood. Speakably takes this to the next level, where you can further improve your knowledge and understanding of English and develop your confidence in conversing and presentation skills.
