About Me

Hi, I’m Michelle, the founder of Speakably. With over 25 years of experience in teaching English in various language and primary schools, I created Speakably to help young adults and professionals gain confidence in their spoken English.

I specialise in helping non-native speakers refine their pronunciation, sound more natural, and communicate with ease in professional and social settings. Speakably isn’t about textbooks and grammar drills—it’s about real, engaging conversations that make a lasting impact.

Whether you’re looking to improve your fluency for work, presentations, or everyday life, Speakably offers a dynamic, supportive space to practise and enhance your spoken English.

My Background

Education

After completing a course in Travel and Tourism, I went off to experience life in a few different places around the world. I encountered incredible experiences in countries including Nigeria, Colombia and Italy. Having submerged myself in difference cultures, I went on study Anthropology at Goldsmiths University.

I really enjoyed this course, and it developed a deeper love and respect for how different cultures live and learn. With a desire to continue to travel and mix with different communities, I

moved to Madrid for a few months where I became qualified as a TEFL teacher. I spent the following years teaching lots of different people from all walks of life.

In more recent years, I have worked as a primary school teacher at Brighton College, where I have taught across a range of settings and encountered a variety of approaches to teaching phonics and early language development. This experience, combined with my broader teaching background, has given me a strong understanding of how children learn to hear, produce, and use English sounds effectively.

Alongside my work with children, I have always been passionate about supporting adults to develop their spoken English. Having lived in another country where I did not speak the language, I experienced first-hand how isolating and frustrating it can feel when you are unable to communicate clearly. The moment you realise you are understood is incredibly empowering.

This understanding led me to develop Speakably — a practical, confidence-building approach that focuses on clear pronunciation, meaningful communication, and real-life use of English. Speakably supports learners to deepen their understanding of the language while developing the confidence they need to converse naturally and present themselves with clarity and assurance.
